Ventana Sur Announces the Special Mentoring Program for Women Animation Directors with the Support of Institut Français d’Argentine

Animation! is the exclusive animation industry section of the Latin American Film Market Ventana Sur, organized by INCAA and Marché du Film / Festival de Cannes, created with the objective to promote Latin American talent, bursting in the global scene stronger every time.

Thus far, Animation! has called 689 projects from 16 countries in the region.

After five years of successful collaboration with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and its market MIFA, both in France and the region arose the shared will to generate a space to develop the female creators’ potential, in an industry in which few women have access to the direction role.

Carrying on the close cooperative bond between Latin America and France, and in alliance with the Institut Français d’Argentine, Animation! launches the Special Mentoring Program for animation projects led by women, with the goal of carrying out actions in favor of gender equality.

In order to qualify to take part in this program, all Latin American projects for series and feature films must complete their registration in the 2020 Animation! Pitching Sessions and accredit the director’s role to a woman.

Five projects will be selected by an international jury and will be granted access to a production, script and pitch training given by three French experts. The program will be held virtually, between January and March 2021.

After the projects complete the Mentoring Program, two of them will be chosen to be presented at MIFA / Annecy 2021. Their directors will also receive support from the Institut Français d’Argentine to travel to France with all expenses included.

The Mentoring Program falls in line with the objectives of Ventana Sur and Institut Français in favor of international exchanges, representativeness of local stories and encouragement of co-productions pursuing the global dissemination of Latin American talent.
